This signature is easily a ‘9’ or better and dates to March 7th, 1962. Maris just completed his improbable 61 homerun season the year before. Vintage Maris autographs are difficult to find as the vast majority date into the 1970’s and 1980’s after his playing days. Roger Eugene Maris (September 10, 1934 – December 14, 1985) was a Major League Baseball right fielder who played for 12 seasons and on four teams, from 1957 through 1968. Maris hit a Major League record 61 home runs during the 1961 season for the New York Yankees, breaking Babe Ruth‘s single-season record of 60 home runs in 1927. Maris’ record stood for the next 37 years.
