For Thurman, all the stats and awards line up for a Hall of Fame career . Perennial all star, rookie of the year, World Series champion, MVP and the list goes on. If not for that fateful day in August of 1979, Munson all but certain would have finished his career in style and have a bust in Canton today.
Collectors looking for high grade Thurman Munson autographed baseballs search but come up short. Look no further if this is you. There simply are not many out there to begin with, let alone examples of this astute variety. Here we find an Official American League baseball, which based on the stampings as designated by authenticator, James Spence Authentication, dates to 1977. The ball has been brilliantly autographed by Thurman on the beloved sweet spot in blue ballpoint, rating a strong '8' or better. The ball is white in color and finds itself in nearly immaculate condition aside from a spot adjacent to the signature. One could certainly argue that better examples exist and this is true, albeit that number is very small.
