Imperial Sports Auctions is thrilled to offer this amazing and perhaps one of a kind pennant for our March 2011 auction. While aware that this pennant was made in more than one color, from our research, it appears to be the first time a red version has ever been offered for sale publicly. Can you imagine a finer, more vibrant looking color for this amazing piece? Approximately 30" long, this outstanding pennant captures the essence of the time - the 1913-1914 World Tour. The Tour was orchestrated by N.Y. Giants manager John McGraw and Chicago White Sox owner Charles Comiskey to drum up additional revenue and interest in the sport.

Our consignor states he originally received this piece in 1974 from a friend, whose father purchased this very pennant in San Francisco during the Tour. This "gold rush" destination was the top spot to see these famed exhibition games in the fall of 1913, as they played three times in the city. Antiquities from this snapshot in history are extremely desired and very difficult to locate. An item such as this extends beyond a pennant collector into the entire foray of vintage baseball memorabilia collecting. Whether you collect cards, pennants, autographs or Matty pieces in general, this Christy Mathewson pennant would fit wonderfully. In phenomenal condition for its age, the pennant shows minor cracking and is in overall Excellent-NearMint condition or better. It has been museum mounted on a light moss green mat to an overall size of 34.5" x 20.5." Once received, you will want to put a frame on this beauty as it becomes a centerpiece in your collection.
