After a dismal fifth place finish during the '26 campagin, N.Y. Giants owner George Stoneham was bound to make a statement for the following season. That offseason, the Giants exchanged one HOF'er for another dealing Frankie Frisch to their rival, the St. Louis Cardinals for Rogers Hornsby. 'Rajah' was known as a fierce competitor and kept out of the limelight, directing his efforts on the diamond. Aside from a couple of fellows named Ruth and Gehrig, many would consider Hornsby the best player during the 20's as he collected two MVP awards. More impressive, Hornsby hit for the Triple Crown twice in a four year span!

The majority of Hornsby signatures typically date to the 50's, yet one such as this, penned at the height of his playing career is much desired and rarely found. This fine memento also features three other signers including outfielder George Harper and Hall of Famers William (Bill) Terry and Freddie Lindstrom. All four autographs are quite bold, signed in black fountain pen rating '8-9' in strength or better. Paper measures approx. 5" x 7.5" in excellent condition with folds not affecting the signatures, and some tac holes.

It has come to our attention that the "signatures" of Harper, Terry and Lindstrom may be secretarial. With that said, only the Rogers Hornsby autograph is guaranteed to pass PSA/DNA or JSA Authentication.

The Roth Collection consists of a large collection of baseball signatures from 1925-1929. Our consignor's mother, Mrs. Loretta Roth(Watt), owned cigar stands inside the distinguished Ryan and St. Paul hotels in the Minneapolis area. She befriended Grace Comiskey(daughter in-law to Charles), and due to her love and knowledge of baseball, was given "all access" to players of the time. We are proud to offer this amazing find with some simply remarkable signatures including Ruth, Cobb, Johnson, Alexander, and so many more!
