As always, we revel the opportunity to present our bidders with a special "find" for the very first time. This particular lot is certainly no different. An excerpt from our consignor reads, "Back in 1940, just before my 6th birthday...in Pasadena to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates at Spring Training. Honus Wagner was then coaching. My dad was able to get his signature..."
Preserved for the last seven decades, we are pleased to present this fantastic postcard autographed by Honus Wagner. While not the official postcard sold by the Hall of Fame, this fine RPPC (real photo postcard) exhibits a glowing luster with a superb black fountain pen signature of Honus, '8-9' in strength. The © F.D.C. 1939 to the right seems to indicate this person or company produced the postcard on their own accord at that time. Beneath Wagner's autograph, we find a pencil notation by that of our consignor's father who received the signature which reads 'Mar 20 1940.' Overall, the postcard is in Excellent to NM condition with just minor corner wear and a clean reverse. If you are like many HOF postcard collectors lacking a Wagner, here is your opportunity to fill that void with what may be the earliest known example to surface at auction. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication(JSA).
