Edward Augustine Walsh epitomized what being a "gamer" was all about. Signing his first professional contract in 1902 with the Meriden Silverites of the Connecticut league, his career had begun. Also known as "Big Ed" for his larger frame, Walsh pitched 2,248 innings during a 6 year stretch from 1907-1912. During this span, which included his dominant 40-Win season of '08, he compiled over 150 Wins. Unfortunately, his workhorse nature took the best of him and little was left after the 1912 season. By 1917, his career was over, his arm was through. One can only imagine that if pitching coaches were around during the Dead Ball Era, Walsh may have gone on to achieve even greater success. That said, the Hall of Fame recognized his work in the Major Leagues and Walsh was rewarded with a plaque in the Hall of Fame in 1947.
Not offered in years by our account, we are very pleased to present you with a T205 Tobacco Card autographed by Edward A. Walsh himself. Very few of these signed cards remain available for sale, as we were unable to find record of any that have changed hands over the last several years via public auction. While the card may be relegated to Fair condition, the signature is striking and bold; '9' in clarity. Autographed tobacco cards, particularly from the T205 and T206 sets, are highly collected and sought after. There simply is not enough supply to meet the demand. A treasure not to be passed by.
