As you gaze into this sepia toned original photograph of Ty Cobb, you begin to feel as though you are in the seats, prepared to watch perhaps the finest athlete of his generation or any for that matter. Here we find not just an image of a ballplayer, but a glimpse into the past from nearly one hundred years ago when baseball ruled America. This original photograph of Cobb measures approx. 5" x 7" and has been autographed by him in black fountain pen, "Very truly Ty Cobb May 20 1917." Original photographs of the 19th century through the early 20th century including the "Dead Ball" era are highly collected. Add in the fact that Cobb also signed the photo, and now you have something that garners discussion of an elite collectible.
The photo has been affixed to a thick, vintage album style backing and remains in excellent condition with minor soiling for its age on the perimeter. As like our other signed photos from this consignor, you are looking at an item that almost never becomes available for sale. Very few Cobb signed photos which date to this period have ever been brought to auction or public sale. Original photos themselves are difficult to acquire, let alone one that has been signed. No need to hesitate on this lot. Now is the time to bid, as you never know when another will become available. Accompanied by a Full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication(JSA).
