Wow! When was the last time you saw one of these? A true single-signed baseball by spitball pitcher Carl Mays. In a career that spanned 15 major league seasons, he compiled over 200 wins with a career ERA of 2.92. Mays is known by many as the man who threw the pitch that killed Ray Chapman during the 1920 season. His numbers are certainly Hall of Fame worthy. Perhaps his personality, combined with the Chapman episode, contributed to the HOF voters overlooking his on the field efforts. Nevertheless, Carl Mays single-signed balls are virtually impossible to find. We were able to only document two others which have sold over the last decade in major auction houses. The ball is an Official National League (Giles) sphere with medium-heavy toning. Albeit, the signature contrasts quite strong, '7-8' in score. Here and now is an opportunity to acquire this much needed single for your collection. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication(JSA).
