What’s a Babe Ruth Signed Baseball Really Worth?
Strength of the signature.
This is definitely the most important factor. A gorgeous ball that is perfectly white, but yields a faint signature is remains lower on the value scale. Take a look at the two below:
Condition of the baseball.
A stunning Ruth signature graced with a backdrop of a ball similar to that in The Sandlot, and you’re not in the same league (sorry for the pun) as one which has a crisp, white creamy surface. What you really want is the best of both worlds – signature strength and the condition of the ball. The value, or worth of a Babe ruth autographed baseball comprises many variables. Here is an example of I am talking about:
Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball – Sold through Imperial Sports Auctions, c.2010. |
Number of autographs on the baseball.
A single signed baseball will supersede its multi-signed counterpart nine times out of ten. Most collectors strongly prefer a Ruth single signed ball over one with multiple autographs. This even goes for team signed balls in most cases.
Location of the Ruth autograph on the baseball.
Babe Ruth Autographed Baseball Value. In general, most collectors of vintage signed baseballs prefer one that has a “sweet spot” autograph. In other words, the signature will be located where the seems are the closest together (see images above). Ruth single signed baseballs that are not autographed on the sweet spot are the anomaly here. The vast majority have Ruth on the coveted sweet spot, so this is typically a non-issue.
